I said it last year and I’ll say it again - this episode deserves to be an annual tradition. This is the story about a family of immigrants making an old British classic - a steamed Christmas pudding. They made it year after year, with laughter (so much laughter), joy, and plenty of booze, and they always made sure everyone got at least one turn with the spoon.
Not only is this a great story, but the storytellers are so so near and dear to me. I’ve known Robert and Lisa for decades and, truthfully, there is no person in this world that can make me laugh until I cry like Robert. He’s funny even when he doesn’t mean to be (but he usually does mean to be). As Robert and Lisa and their children live in Japan, we only get to see each other every few years, which is part of what made this interview so special and fun for me.
This is an episode all about the power of not only food - but also laughter - to unite both family and friends across generations, cultures, distances & time zones.
Finally, you’ll have to listen to the end to hear it, but 25 years ago, Robert gave me the Christmas tradition that I still treasure most fondly. It’s been mainly a secret tradition in all those years, but this year - I’ll be sharing it with you next Monday. Please, please make sure you subscribe in your player or to my newsletter to receive that (if you choose to subscribe to the newsletter, that would be best because then you’ll keep up not only with episodes but recipes and personal updates also - you can find the link right there in my show notes). This is really important I learned in my recent survey that many of you depend on Instagram to tell you when new posts are released - and that scares me, because Instagram limits reach more and more every day. So I’m asking you, as a Christmas gift to me, to subscribe. That way, whether you have time to listen or not - at least you’ll *know* when a new episode is released.
Okay, with all that said, here we go with Robert, Lisa and…. I’m already smiling at this treat.
