Shrove Tuesday—also known as Pancake Tuesday—falls on the day before Lent begins. Because people traditionally gave up rich foods during Lent, they would use up ingredients like eggs, milk, and sugar in a final feast, often making pancakes. Hence the name “Pancake Tuesday.”
